Resurface Your Concrete

After some time, concrete can start to look unsightly with small cracks, chips, or stains. Whether it’s your garage, carport, porch, or sidewalk no concrete is exempt from the wear and tear of aging concrete. Concrete resurfacing is a process in which you can turn the old and worn out concrete into a new youthful slab.

What is concrete resurfacing?

Concrete resurfacing is a process in which a thin cement overlay is mixed with bonding agents and is applied to the surface of the concrete. Being poured over the existing concrete it adheres and creates a smooth and beautiful new surface. Not only does this process give a stunning new look, but as time goes on it will increase the durability of the concrete.

Cracking

When concrete surfaces get old or have constant traffic it can cause cracking. Cracking can happen to any concrete surface and can make your surfaces look worn out and unsightly. When cracking occurs it is always best to address these cracks as soon as possible so that they don’t get worse and get to a catastrophic level. Small cracks without resurfacing can turn into severe problems that could ruin the entire slab and cause it to need to be replaced.

Chipping

Chipping is an issue that can occur on its own over time with wear and tear of your concrete surfaces or can come about as things are dropped or moved across these surfaces. Dropping items such as tools while your working on your car or as simple as a coffee mug could cause chipping that can turn into major damage. These minor chips can further turn into cracks or major dips in your concrete surfaces that can cause damage to vehicles or be a major safety hazard and cause tripping.

Stains and Discoloration

Concrete surfaces can be a magnet for spills and stains especially in outdoor areas with a lot of traffic. Whether its from vehicle traffic or people traffic these areas are prone to many different stains and spots appearing. Parking your car on your patio or carport areas can leave different spots from motor oil to other car fluids that can leave pesky stains that are hard to get rid of. Concrete resurfacing is a great way to make your concrete surfaces look as good as new and get rid of pesky stains. If your concrete is looking a little work and discolored or has different stained spots, it may be time to consider concrete resurfacing.

Scaling and Flaking

Scaling and flaking is different than the chipping of concrete, scaling or flaking is caused by the constant freeze and thaw cycles that can lead to small exposed areas that can turn into big problems. Not only is this a result of the freeze/thaw cycle but it can also be caused by not allowing the concrete to cure long enough or having no cure time at all. Using concrete resurfacing, you can fix these issues by using a hammer and chisel or a shotblasting the area to remove all weak or unsound material. After this, concrete resurfacing can create a smooth new surface that will have a strong and durable bond strengthening the underlying concrete.
